1984-2002 Camaro Pro's/Con's For the future buyer

I am looking into possibly buying a Camaro between the years of 1984-2002 , and i just really want to get a good idea of what i could be getting myself into depending on the year. Just place any and all information about the car and possibly even a personal oppinion of what any of you feel is the best year. I only plan on spending no more then $10Grand so really i have alittle room to play with, but would much rather spend less and over time put money into the car to get the performance out of it, So really any information would be a great improvment to the very little i have right now.

Thank You

well hell for 10k u can get any car from those years just about...not incluiding a ss or ws6 of the last few years 00-02...as for problems t expect, thats a long list of things and so many cars to cover....u have to consider the milage on the car, how old it is, man those years are so different from one another it aint funny. u shoud narrow down to at least 2 or 3 u really like and go from there...u have to have one u like the most of all. me i would want a 97ss, or a 2002 ws6TA.

If you have that much to spend, go for a nice fourth gen ss.

Eh, just go with a Z28, unless you really like the appearance of the SS. That's basically the only difference between the 2. (Ok, there's more than just that difference, but really not worth mentioning.) There's only about 15hp difference and if you plan on modding the car, that difference doesn't matter at all.

heh, find me a nice SS under $10,000 and I would probably buy it.

Marsal420,
I am also looking for an 97 SS, the last year of the LT1 and the more aggressive front end(personal opinion). But I have about given up and am just going after the 30th anniversary edition now so I feel the car has something special about it. If you're into repairing them yourself it seems there are a lot out there at lower prices, so get something like that and build it to your likings. If you don't you will end up like me and still have no toy!

if you run across a black 91 rs with battery acid stains in the carpet, leaking t-tops, chipped paint and a flea market stereo, buy it. its probably my old one, and i beat the heck out of it but it never let me down, or left me stranded.

How is the front end more aggressive? 93-97 front ends are the same.

Re: 1984-2002 Camaro Pro's/Con's For the future buyer

Doesn't the 1998 Front have those more aggressive looking headlights? And, really from looking at what everyone has wrote and looking at them i think im going with a newer one just because it's the LT1. But my next question is what is the difference with the LT1 and the Ls1? There is a 1999 Camaro Z28 near where i live and it has a LS1 in it and i dont know much about the engine , and to be honest im sorta just as clueless to the LT1, other then the fact it's a more "BEEFED" up 350. I would have to say i will be looking for a 1993-2000 Camaro, i found a site that sells old cop cars and they have a few for around my price range and actually a few for cheap =), but then i run into the issue of the being beat to hell but heres the site for anyone that wants to check it out.

http://www.copcarsonline.com/pricing.htm

SO now the question is between the years 93-2000 what would be the best overal project car for the money, part availability and the easyest to mod?

Re: 1984-2002 Camaro Pro's/Con's For the future buyer

ok let em do my best to hit every topic...lol..first hes talking about the more aggresive look the lt1 has on the ls1...no bashing..i love that engine, but when i wrecked my rs everyone screamed get the ls1 v8 not the lt1...the ls1 has more sock power, and being real, it can get more power than a lt1 can in the long run...yes lt1 guys do build the shit out of them to smack ls1 cars but because of the differences in the heads..the way they can be prted and the way they are made, the ls1 will just always be the shit!!! now for the look...ls1 camaro have the same damn fron the sebring has on it...why do i say that?? well at night i mistake one for the other all the dame time..and in the day i just never liked those damn headlights! thats why i spent lots of money to build a ls1 to put in my lt1 looking car...better look with the better engine.. i myself would only buy a ls1 TA or the ss camaro...just because the ss will always be bad ass even with the sebring lights! the rest of the car makes up 4 it, and that hood helps...(im sure alot of people feel the same) but the lt1 looked more aggresive. oh and good luck at finding that 97ss...never found more than a couple and they wanted alot for them..very low milage...

Don't get me wrong, I love the way my car looks but It does kinda look like a Sebring....93-97 definitely is the more aggressive style of fourth gen.
