Re: Taurus Remote Programing

These instructions will work on Taurus models, 93 - 95:

Turn ignition to RUN or ACC. Momentarily jump pins in programming connector located in LR quarter panel area. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Press any button on 1st transmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Press any button on 2nd transmitter (up to 4 transmitters total possible). Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

These instructions will work on Taurus models 96 - 97:

Cycle ignition from OFF to RUN 5 times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN.

I tried what you wrote for the 96-97 FOB I can't get the new one to work unless it works and my 1st one won't. Its as if they cancel the other out. How can I get them both to work and have the spare I need? I thank you

They do cancel each other, if you enter the programming mode, it erases any previously programmed remotes. While in the programming mode, you need to program all remotes that you want to work. So, try it again, but be sure to have both remotes handy.

Re: Taurus Remote Programing

Great, glad to hear you're back up and going.

So, it sounds like you know your '96 has the PATS anti-theft system. Yes, you can program additional keys, and it sounds like you got lucky with your '96 in that you only need one programmed key to program up to 15 additional keys. I don't have the procedure for the 1996 specifically, but below is the process for the 1997 which I think should work for you. For 1998, they changed the process and the PATS system requires at least 2 programmed keys to program additional keys.

--------------------
The system has capacity to store a maximum of 16 keys. After the initial key has been programmed or using any programmed key, follow the steps below:

Note:
Encoded keys must have correct mechanical key cut for vehicle.

l Cycle ignition switch from RUN to OFF with a programmed key.

l Within 15 seconds after this cycle, insert a new encoded key into ignition switch and turn to RUN or START.

l If programming is successful, the THEFT Indicator will illuminate for two seconds and the control module will enable the vehicle to start.

l Repeat until all chosen keys have been programmed, up to 16 keys total.

l If programming is not successful, the THEFT Indicator will:

-- Flash for one minute if no key code is received. The key is either damaged or is a non-encoded key. (Try a new key and start procedure over again.)

-- Flash for 15 minutes if key code is received yet vehicle is disabled. The key was not programmed successfully. Start procedure over again.

l If programming is not successful, possibly the new key was not inserted within 15 seconds, all 16 key codes have been stored, or the key is a non-encoded key. If the key was not encoded or inserted within 15 seconds, repeat procedure.
--------------------
