Question How to put BCM into program mode? (Where is BCM/MALL fuse?)

I have a 2000 Grand Am, and I think it's ridiculous to pay a dealer 100 bux to give me a plastic RF remote and spend 30 seconds programming it.

Apparently, the Grand Prix as well as other Pontiac models have a BCM or MALL fuse, and removing it is part of the process to program the remote. I assume that the GA would also, but I can't seem to find it.

Does anyone know where it is or have another process for programming the keyless remote?

Please don't reply that I need a scanner. If I had one, I wouldn't be making this post. I'm sure it can be done, an old boyfriend of mine was able to program his remote without the scanner, and he had the same year. I'm just trying to remember how he did it!

Thanks for your help!

Re: How to put BCM into program mode? (Where is BCM/MALL fuse?)

Try it this way:

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)
To program the transmitters, perform the following procedure while seated in the vehicle driver's seat:

Close all the vehicle doors.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch.
Important: To successfully enter the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode, steps 4 through 6 must be completed within 25 seconds of pressing the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock cylinder.
Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the rest of the procedure.
Release the door lock switch. The chime will sound three chimes to signal that transmitter programming/diagnostic mode is active.
Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the keyless entry transmitter for approximately 4 seconds. The chime will sound two times to signal that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.
Repeat step 7 for the rest of the transmitters (for a total of 4 transmitters).
To exit the transmitter programming/diagnostic mode perform either of the following:
• Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

• Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch

I had directions kind of similar to this but it required fuse removal. I'll be so excited if this works. Was this specifically for my model year?

Welcome to AF copchick527!

The 1999-2000 can be programed by anyone, heres another set of directions if the above doesnt work. Those above should work, if not thiers something else wrong.

The 2001+ do need the stealership to program, neither requires you to remove the BCM fuse though.
