Trust Best Buy??
I have a 93 max with the damn non-working bose (see my other string: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t64589.html)
I went to best buy and he told me all the cables and things they would need to install to bypass the bose system (or something)and install a new head unit. He said it would be $200 for installing all the stuff, then the price of the new head unit. From what I've heard, everyone who went with bose speakers and an aftermarket head said it sounded like crap. Also, is this best buy guy ripping me off? Help!:bawling: |

Well maybe a rewire may do it, however when I had my Alpine HU and AMP and SUB installed, They had to use a speaker bypass thing basically so that the HU would work the components, but I believe it was only because I wasn't hooking them up to the AMP...as you know the 2 rear components have their own amps mounted to the bottom of them. So it posed some issue with the alpine deck. as for sound quality, I did not a degrade in the bose speakers, specially when i turn my SUB off they put out absolutly no bass at all, and get very distored at high volume. One of these days I will be switching out the stock components with Infinity speakers. Oh and if you wanted to use the stock Bose double din deck and hook up an amp and sub, there is tons of added shit needed, so much that it actually would save you money getting a new deck hehe

Bose Bad
I feel your pain. The Bose wiring uses a non-standard line level power, I believe it is lower. I changed out my Bose for a Sony Xplode in my 1992 Max and used the original wiring - with the line level adapter. I did change out my rear speaker (which were cheap paper cones) for a $70 dollar pair of Sony 6x9's. Mounted them to the same plate and amp that was in place. Sounded good, bass responce was a good as any truck-mounted speakers.

the only difference between bose and other stereo systems is that the bose system amplifies each indvidual speaker at the back of the speaker instead of at the actual deck. don't rewire anything i bought a kenwood deck to put in and all you have to do is orrder a $15 line convertor. it's basically a special wiring harness. go to crutchfield.com and search for a deck by putting in the make and model of your car they explain everything you need for a bose deck. i was getting the same shitty answers from butt-hole's who just wanted my money. i got actual answers and results the day i went to crutchfield
or just go to your nissan dealership. they'll put another bose unit in if you want. |
