I have a question about the Bose radio system in my C5. I bought an mp3 cd receiver today from Best Buy (wtf was I thinking???). I'm starting to question some of the things the salesman told me and if I found out he's lying...well let's just say he better not be bs ing me.
Anyway, he said the receiver would not work with the bose amp and speakers because of something with the wattage on them. Of course this is after spending an hour taking the factory one out and having everything dissassembled. He said to make it work the speakers would have to be replaced and they'd have to reroute around the bose amp. I asked if they had a unit that would work with it and he said no. I told him I would only change the speakers out if they sounded as good or better than the factory speakers. After he assured me that these would sound much better I let him change them. Well, I like the receiver, but the speakers are horrible. I have no low end anymore. Everything is mids and highs. Not to mention instead of running me $350.00 it ended up running me about $750.00. Is there any reason that the receiver would not work with the Bose speaker system? On their website, it lets you choose your make and model of car and it tells you whether or not it will work with your car. It shows that it will work with a 1999 Corvette. After all, isn't this what the harness kit is for? I notice there was a special on speakers going on and I have a sneaky feeling he was saying that just to sell speakers. I have an old amp and 2 12" speakers I could fix the bass problem with, but if they lied to me to sell speakers they're going to put everything back like it was and give me my money back. If they weren't lying, does anyone know a good place to put a 12" speaker without doing a lot of modification? I could do with just one, I don't really care to have the BOOM BOOM BOOM, I just want a little more bass to round out the ear piercing mids and highs. |

Not sure what to tell you except that I would never ever have Best Buy install anything. Those high school kids/dropouts don't know sh*t. You should have spent your money else where at like Car Toys or something like that, or an even more high end reputable car audio dealer.

All of the car audio places around here have nothing but highschool dropouts working at them so you're kind of screwed no matter what. It would be nice to get a PROFESSIONAL place around here.Trust me, I didn't leave the work area while they were installing. At the first sign of a saw I would have ![]() Anyway, I did find out that it can be done but it took me 2 days of web searching and calling national car audio companies to find out how. Scosche has an adapter to allow after market receivers to work with the existing Bose amp. And that is the only one I have managed to find that will work with a vette. I'm ordering the part and I'm going to have them put the bose system back in....and just let them try to complain about refunding me for the speakers.....

Ok, I have the solution. There is a $17.00 adapter that takes care of this problem. It allows you to adjust the gain on the factory amp to keep the receiver preamp from blowing it. It can even be purchased in the car audio section of your local Walmart. In fact when I called Scosche to order it, that's what they suggested I do. The Walmart part number is FAI3A. The scosche number is SLC4.
