Any1 Working at Best Buy?

Im thinking about working at Best Buy. Any1 here ever work there, how do they treat you? I know its non commission, i like that because i wouldbt be able to sell 4 Sh*t. Anyways, whats starting pay? Whats the discounts? Im only 17, live in cali. Never had a job before. Anyways, i was wondering if you work in the car installation section, do you have to be a certain age? Do you have to be certified or whatever? Or can they just train you? Becuase i wouldnt mind working with cars alllll damn day. Thanksss in advance

Well...as far as discounts go...they aren't great but they help out. If you aren't trying to be a manager then just get a job for the discounts...I know at Virgin Music they give you 5 free CD's a week...plus like 20% off most things including special orders. And Best Buy gives out smaller discounts than Circuit City (similar company, if that's what you wanna work in)...but you don't have to sell anything if you work in the middle (CDs, DVDs, and supplies for the like at BB). And you defintely don't have to sell insurance like Circuit City makes you...pay is better at CC, though, and application is strenuous. My friend is making $10.50/hr at CC whereas my other friend is making $6.75/hr at BB (both part-time). Sorry for the long post...just a little info for you. Good luck with the job hunt!

Thanks for the info, seems like Circuit citys the way to go.. but then again i dont wana be selling crap and pressuring people. Best Buy discount SUCKS, i know at circuit city the employees pay as much as the store paid for the item. I need to find me a circuit city lol..

About the car installation though, any1 know the minimum age for circuit city or best buy? Do you have to be certified or whatever or can they train you? Becuz like i said i wouldnt mind working with cars allll day.

Seems kind of strange to work at a place to get a discount. It sounds like your taking a low paying job to give the money right back to them (the only way to get the discount is to buy shit). You're better off finding sale deals for things you want and find a job that pays the best while doing something you enjoy.

im not just working for the discount because your right its pointless like that. But it does come in handy for car audio and all.. Anyways, from what ive heard not only does circuit city have better discounts, but better PAY too so thats why.. Ill do anything but cashier, i hate that sh*t lol. Still wondering about the car audio, no1s giving me feedback on that?

Well I worked there for about 5 minutes. THe store was just about to close in Palisades mall, and the manager asked me to help me move a large case. He seemed to be in a hurry, so when I bought my Wireless Internet stuff, he gave $10 in extra change. But after I counted the guy dissappeared from the register, and I ran for the gate because it was closing. I never was able to return the money, got too busy of a schedule. It also seemed he gave the $10 on purpose.

Re: Any1 Working at Best Buy?

Another thing about Best Buy is that the people are constantly trying to sell you an extended warranty/maintenance agreement.

Re: Any1 Working at Best Buy?

For car stereo stuff I like Crutchfield for my stuff. The only really bad thing about installing a new antenna on a Civic is to make sure your paying attention to what your doing, cause if not it can be a real pain to do.

no i was talking about the car audio installation sections in BestBuy and Circuit City, the people that install the stuff. I might want to be doing that if i work there but i dont really know THAT much on installing. Plus im only 17, and im not "certified" or whatever you have to be. Will they train you.

Re: Any1 Working at Best Buy?

I don't see why they wouldn't because for what they're paying per hour I highly doubt they'd run acrossed any experienced installers.
