Evo engine in an Eclipse?

I haven't done too much reading into it out of sheer laziness, but would it be a relatively easy swap?

evo motor

It really depends on the year and make of your car now. It is a pretty easy swap into a 1g or 2g turbo car, but not so easy if you have a 2gnt.

i believe thats wrong, the evo engine is turned the opposite way than an eclipse and i dont think it will bolt up.

Let me know..

I would like to know is someone finds a definate answer to the question. I dont see myself why it would be a problem, yet I am not a mechanic. The way I see it is the eclipse came with either the 4G63 or the 420A. Same frame, 2 different power plants. The only fabrication that I could think that would be needed would be motor mounts. But again, let me know if a positive answer is found.

The evo engine shares the same motor mount locations as a 2g eclipse, so it will bolt up in any 2g. The wiring will be easier with a 2g turbo. The motor mounts are completely different than the 1g eclipse, and it won't bolt up. This isn't just me saying this, road race engineering and several other dsm specialists will tell you the same thing.
Why would you want an evo motor anyway?... just get a rebuilt US version 6-bolt motor with a 2g exhaust manifold, a 16g turbo with 550's and an evo o2 housing and you pretty much have your evo motor right there (for ALOT less than the $4000 asking price for a used JDM evo motor).
btw, the evo that's compatible with the 2g eclipse isn't the newer version, i think it's the evo 1, 2, 3 or one of the earlier ones. Thost only had like 220 hp anyway, so it wouldnt be worth the aggrevation. The evo 6 and 7 motor (I'm 99% sure) won't fit in any eclipse without a severely determined rich person. or something

oh yeah, and the evo is awd, with a completely different tranny than an awd eclipse. I don't know if the fwd or awd eclipse tranny will bolt up either.

either way, it's not worth the frustration.

From what I have read it is impossible to swap in the Lancer Evo engine into an Eclipse because the Lancer Evo engine 4G63 is layed out with the timing belt on the left side of the engine and the Eclipse engines 4G63 have the timing belts on the Right side of the engine.

It's like a right and left Shoe, you can't try to put a left shoe on a right foot.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

EVO III Engine

You gentlemen are refering to the EVO III Engine. It bolts up to any 2G Eclipse because in essence they are the same engine only difference is that the EVO III has a 16G turbo which is slightly bigger and 550cc Injectors that are yellow finding one is hard because less than 5% of all JDM motors are EVO IIIs. Why bother with a motor that spits out 240Hp under the best conditions when you can purchase a 1G JDM for about 2000 grand with shipping and it comes forged and resistant to wear.
If you are truly intrested in purchasing a JDM motor for any car you should look it up here...http://www.totaljdm.com/?id=40320

Re: Evo engine in an Eclipse?

A 4g63 is a 4g 63, who cares what car it comes from. Build up the one you have, or get a 6 bolt and be done with it. US 6 bolt motors have been proven to make over 500 whp reliably, and can be bought for 300-500 bucks and dropped in. What more do people want...

Re: Evo engine in an Eclipse?

All above is basically correct except that the later evo engines have variable valve timing which i haven't been able to find for the earlier 4g63 engine which would give it more power over the earlier 4g63 in my opinion. But if there all correct and you can only put the earlier evo engines in, its a waste of time and money to put it in an eclipse. Theres a website called dsmtuners.com that will help you build your 4g63 if you want.

Re: Evo engine in an Eclipse?

in addition to the variable valve time the head is also modified more than the earlier 4g63. So if your gonna put the 16g turbo and 550cc injectors you might want to put slightly bigger valves cams and polish and port the head.

Holy shit...and he knows about Tuners.

PLEASE, please, make sure to follow the rules over there. We're less happy about threads started in 2002 being bumped for no reason.

True. I'm exhausted of seeing this thread and the millions of others about motor swaps and then brought back from the dead 6 years later.
