Question is this possible: a evo engine in a eclipse

i was thinking about buying this 97' eclipse that is stripped of the motor, wheels, and the interior. i was wondering if the lancer evolution engine could be swapped into the 97' eclispe. i understand that if this is possible i would have to have the car's exh/inta match that of the engine. i am asking this because i have seen a ford focus with a mustang engine and was just wondering.

well yes anything is possible with $$$ but in reality the evo motor wont fit into the eclipse b\c the tranny is on the oppsite side of the u.s. spec 4g63... so it would be a bitch to make it work...

jus swap in a 6-bolt dsm 4g63 n tunne it...

good luck

Well, the Eclipse GST/ GSX comes with the 4G63 motor also used in the Lancer Evolution. There are some differences, such as the placement of the tranny, motor mounts, intercooler, and the Evo 8's come with the larger TD05-16G turbo (Eclipse comes with a dinky T25). So really the wiser thing to do with a stripped Eclipse would be to get a 4G63 from another Eclipse, drop it in, and mod it from there. The 4G63 is an awesome tuning platform, capable of over 400hp without even opening the valve cover.

Which Evo is it that shares some parts with the eclipse? I know that the steering for the 2g is based off the 94 galant....i wonder what other cars share similarities

Hyundai's use the 4g63...the Evo I, II, III will work in an eclipse, and to the other guy; swapping a turbo engine into an NT is not cost effective.

I'm going to be a little more blunt than Lando. For God's sakes people stop asking about putting turbo motors in the NT DSMs. It cant be done in any way that would possibly even make a little sense. This question gets asked and answered at least a dozen times per day on this board alone. The motor is on the wronf side of the car. The ECUs are different. Everything is different. The NT car is a neon with an identity crisis, and it shares nothing with the turbo DSM's drivetrain.

EVO 7 Engine in eclipse

I have experience in that particular motor swap. It is possible and very easy to do with very few modifications. I am particularly fond of the evo 7 engine because it has been able to hold up great amounts of stress.

In a NT? The EVO 7 and its matching tranny would sit on the right side and spin the right way for a NT car. If its a turbo DSM you use the EVO 1-3. I ahve heard of people talking about putting the EVO4 and up motors in NTs, but I have yet to actually see one run... Which ECU did you use for that swap?

Prove it. Anything could be done with the right amount of money, I don't doubt that, but the question becomes; WHY? Why an Evo7 motor? Why not a standard 4g63t?

I believe he is using the 7 motor because the EVO3 and up have the same motor/tranny orientation as the NT 2g. Opposite of all of the turbo dSMs and the EVO1-3, and spins the other way. So it all spins the right way, and physically sits the right way, it makes more sense than a regular 4g63. But like I said above, I've never actually seen one done. If we could get some more details on what the "very few modifications" are That would be cool.

lando's right about the evo I II or III, they are a straight swap into an eclipse. I had an evo III in mine when i bought it. Unfortunately i fried it so now its stripped down sitting in the garage.
You could definately tell a power difference though, it was quicker running the stock 12-14 lbs than my clyclone is when running the same boost.

this swap is possible with $$$$. whats the difference between the Evo 1, 2 and 3 4g63 engines, the horsepower? swapping the Evo 7 or 8 enigne into a Eclipse is possible WITH money. LandoAWD is right too. MY theory is that if you have a good 20,000 bucks saved, this is swap is possible on a 1g Eclipse/Talon, but i might be wrong.
