wax body before or after decalling?
I did a quick search of the FAQ and how to, then did a search of the keyword "wax" and didn't find an answer. If this question has been asked and answered, please forgive me and send me to the correct thread.
In any event... Should I apply decals before or after waxing the body of my kit? I've painted and polished the body but do not know where to go from here... Any help appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: wax body before or after decalling?
Most often it is customary to apply primer followed by paint followed by decals followed by laquer THEN lastly, wax. ..Although you might find that some will laquer then apply decals then laquer again to protect the decals. After that you should finish off with light polishing and waxing. This is basically the process I follow..
It is possible to break/crack decals with a Wax, This is probably why a laquer is used. Hope this helps. M1CRO. |

Re: wax body before or after decalling?
If you don't clear coat your decals: wax and then apply decals.
Try to use some MicroSet to clear the place where you will apply the decals. (mix of vinegar and watter do the same thing)

Re: wax body before or after decalling?
I've had good results by waxing after decals, without using clearcoat. It might be affected by the type of wax - I was using Tamiya wax.

I asked this question a while back and the best answer I got was to wax AFTER decaling. Reason: wax isn't permanent, it rubs/wears off.

Re: wax body before or after decalling?
If I am not clearcoating after decalling then I wax after I have put the decals on. I paint the body, polish it, apply decals, then lightly wax with Tamiya wax. The Tamiya wax is very liquid and has no abrasive qualities so it does not affect the decals in any way.

Re: wax body before or after decalling?
I asked this qestion ages ago... I was told to decal, let decals dry for a few days, and then wax the decals, as the wax washes off, and decals do not stick to wax too well...
If clearcoating, leave the wax off the decals, clear, and then wax the clear. |

This makes me realise how each person has there own technique for things like waxing. There isn't one set way to do it, but I can recommended waxing after decals without clearcoating. But I guess you just have to try things for yourself and see what works to find the right method |
