Primer question.
Today I went to a nearby city to buy some paint. When I was there I thought of buying some automotive primer as well. But...
It doesn't say anything about whether it's suitable for plastics. A seller once told me that if used that kind of primer it would fall (crumble) of the car. I'm not a professional so I don't know what to do now. Can I use this automotive primer? or will it ruin the body of the car. [edit] I just read Guiddy's tutorial and I'm still unsure what to do. I just need a confirmation [/edit]

Hi Marco,
Yes, automotive primer will destroy the plastic. If you go to the Dorpsstraat in Zoetermeer, you'll find a shop called "Kroonpart". They sell "reactieprimer", that's what you're looking for. That won't eat the plastic. They sell it in quantities of 250 cl. It'll cost you about €4,50. They can mix all possible autolak for you. If you try and look sweet they maybe sell it to you in 100cl tins. They'll only do this when it's quiet in the shop since the measuring and calculating costs more time. At wednesday 19 june, IPMS (International Plastic Modellers' Society) Regio Zuid-Holland will organize it's bi-monthly meeting. That's from 19.30-23.00 in Café l' Esperance in Nieuwerkerk a/d Ijssel. The coördinator is Rinus. You'll want to talk to him since he uses this reactieprimer and the autolak. He'll also put in an appearance at the IPMS Regio Midden Open Dag (with contest!) at 23 june at Cothen. See www.xs4all.nl/~ipms Happy modelling, Erik.

Thanks for the information but I don't think I'm going to Zoetermeer for primer. Because..
I found a spraycan in the shed which says sealer for plastics. It's blank primer so that should work. Could I follow the same steps in Guiddy's tutorial for this sort of primer?

I bought colorless plastic primer at Halfords here. Sprayed the first model with it 2 weeks ago, the last layer of color went on last saturday and is still sitting tight on it. Just looked at it and it still looks like it won't harm the body or fal off in a very short time. So just try it for yourself.
BTW things for plastic should always work on models in my opinion.

Hai Marco & Stefan,
I haven't used spraycans yet. Up till now I've only used Tamiya spraycans and I'm NOT happy with that (especially the white...). I prefer using my airbrush. That's why I went from Amersfoort to Zoetermeer... BTW, Meurs Autolakken on the Marnixstraat in Utrech sells automotive paints too, but only in 250cl tins. And I drew a pretty blank look when I asked for "reactieprimer". Cheers & happy spraycanning, Erik.

I found a motorcycle model in my cupboard. I want to try the automotive primer (Motip, grey) on that one to see what happens. It's no problem if it gets ruined.
I'll give an update later this day.

Here I am again. The test went well. The plastic seems to be ok. The primer sits good on the plastic. I think I'll use this primer.
I haven't seen Tamiya primer over here. Maybe I'll order some online.

If i wanted to get Tamiya primer it would be no problem, my local modelshop sells it... The only difference is it's pricing costs 1,5 x more and the can is around 3/4 in size in comparison with the automotive primer which seems to work perfect also.
