i have a 97 civic ex which has a d16y8 sohc vtec engine (or so i understand). my question is since its vtec i assume that the engine has a good rod/stroke ratio. also, the bottom end i have (d16y8) needs new internals. i'm searching for a new crank shaft and wanted to know if i can use the crank shaft from any 97+ d-series engine without throwng off that r/s ratio (i'm assuming it might). if anyone can answer these questions i'd be really grateful....and by the way i still want a carbon fiber exterior roof panel so my civic can look like the M3 GTR show car.

if you need a crank, pistons and rods. It doesnt matter what block you got, because you could put it on DX motor as long as the internals are from y8 (or aftermarket replacements).
if you use d-series crank, make sure its the y8 one, otherwise you might change the stroke. |

If I'm not mistaken, the recent D16 engines all have the same stroke:
D16Y5 (HX): 75mm X 90mm, 9.4:1, SOHC Vtec-E Lobe heights (2 intake, 1 exhaust): 38.427mm, 32.193mm, 38.784mm D16Y7 (DX, LX): 75mm X 90mm, 9.4:1, SOHC Lobe heights (1 intake, 1 exhaust): 35.299mm, 37.281mm D16Y8 (EX): 75mm X 90mm, 9.6:1, SOHC Vtec Lobe heights (3 intake, 1 exhaust): 36.778mm, 38.274mm, 37.065mm, 38.008mm
