SOHC hands SOHC VTEC its...

I'm cruising on the freeway last night, and I change lanes to get around this slower car. There was a white stock 6th gen 4dr. EX that happened to be in the lane I moved into. He was aways back from where I was, but apparently somewhere between 70 and 75mph wasn't fast enough for him. So he moves to the lane on our right, and there's a slower car coming up ahead of him, and I knew his plan was to cut me off at the pass you could say so he wouldn't break his stride. I didn't feel like getting cut off, so when he moved and sped up, I punched it to the floor and best he could do was get even with my bumper, but wasn't able to pass so he had to hit the brakes of course as we reached 85mph and then I just kept it there for a few moments.

I just kinda laughed about it but slowed back down to my original pace. I was quite surprised he couldn't pass though. Sure my engine is modded, but I'm not expecting that much from an intake, exhaust and adjustable FPR set to 5psi. higher than stock. Either SOHC VTEC is just over rated, or my mods are doing more for me than I had thought. Both my intake and exhaust are claimed to add more to my mid end which is where most passing acceleration happens at.

A DX with some bolt-ons is about the same as its older brother. My buddy and I both got our cars around the same time and would race them stock, and the winner would be whoever hit the gas first.. (me - '00 dx hatch, him - '00 ex coupe)

I 've been screwing with civics for ab 7 yrs now always dx , I guess thats why i'm always into the sleeper look.
It has never been uncommon for guys in EX's to ask what i had done
And look amazed when I would say that it was a D15, and that it was all motor.

Although now EX's can't even dream of getting close enough to ask without turbo. love my swap it is all i had hoped and dreamed now i just want a turbo. b18 c1.

that happens to me a lot on the freeway. i usually just let it go...but sometimes when ive had enough of the cutting...i do what you did. it sometimes just pisses me that some people have to cut you just to go a little faster when it wont make that much of a difference.

My guess is either he was a 5-speed and didn't downshift at all or enough (I'm auto so mine auto downshifts when I punch it anyways) or the weight differance between coupe and 4dr. really made is presence known. It's not motor, because even with my mods he still had at least a 10-12hp advantage over me, and we all know how in Civics every last hp number counts.

congratulations!!!!i like hearing those stories!yea i think that it has alot to do with driver...my cousin has a modded out civic hatchback with a 95 Si engine that was swapped and new cams and intake and injen exhaust and stripped all the rear seats he bought from some guy cause hes rich and saw the fast and the furious.....and i can beat him by like 1 car and half because he didnt know that redline is where to shift..he was shitfting at like 5000 rpms?? ha ha even though on his car redline was like 7500?..but he just didnt know..and all i have is a 97 ex 2 dr vtec with a new cold air intake and a cheap aftermarket exhaust.
question...was the civic modded out?like did he have rims or exhaust or anything?also is a 4 door ex a stick??? how much lighter is the 2dr ex or lx as compared to the 4dr?
cool..nice story

if u read his post, the civic was a white four door and stock.

btw, on some cars...redline isn't the point u want to shift at. for some u'll reach ur peak power before this point and should shift before ur powerband drops off.

also, u do know that except for the cams, ur two motors make about the same power? so it would be a drivers race (which is props to u then.)

a 4 door ex can come in either a 5 speed manual, or an auto. the 2 door dx weighs in at only 2359, where the 4 door ex (more options) weighs around 2513.

god I hate it when people try to do that... when people try to do that to me I not only cut them right off but then I sit there next to the car in the right lane for a few seconds just to get my point across

haha, I did that too. That's when he broke to my left across 2 lanes to get back to the speed he was going. Whatever though, but for those moments that I messed him up with what I did, I'm sure he felt like an ass for thinking he could get by me by cutting me off and then me shutting him down.
