Rotor replacement questions?

Hello everyone, this is my first time on this forum so I am not sure I am asking this question in the right place. I also did a search on this but I could not find a simliar question/answer.

My girl has a 1997 Integra GSR with 47,xxx mile on it. The last time she was at the dealer they made a note on her records that she was going to need both new brakes and rotors. Today when she was going to schedule a oil change they told her that she was going to need the new brakes and rotors for a total of $450 parts and labor.

My gut instinct is that this is not the case. I do believe she needs new brake pads, but not new rotors. (the brake pads are the stock original)The only time the car is driven hard is when I drive it and that is not too often (and it is not like I do any autocrossing with it). When you apply the brakes between 30 mph - 70 mph there is no shimmy or vibrations to be felt. In my opinion there is nothing that would lead me to believe the rotors need to be replaced. (I have not removed the tire)

Up until now I always thought the dealer had been pretty honest with her, but now I am not so sure. I wondering if this is a case of taking advantage of a woman/uninformed person.

Are there any Integra specific issues with the rotors? Do other dealers do this? Are there any service bulletins about this car that I do not know about? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

they are trying to screw you. Call the dealership and find out the replacement spec and get a micrometer and measure if the rotors are still spec. ( if your are not killing the breaks they should still be within spec) If there is alot of scoring on the rotors you should get them turned, but you can do that at most any auto parts store. call you local auto parts store and price the rotors. (they sould not be more that $30-$60 each)

Prior post was correct.

Is your g/f experiencing a shaky steering wheel when the brakes are applied? Are the rotor's scratched, or are heat spots visible?

If not, the rotors should be fine. Do get a micrometer and check the width to make sure it is not warped. My Helmes is at home, otherwise I'd give you the spec. Just call your Acura dealership and request the spec yourself!

here are the specs for the fronts...

Runout = 0.10mm
Thickness = 19.0mm min refinish

and the backs...

Runout = 0.10mm
Thickness = 8.0mm min refinish

Make sure you measure at multiple points and use the smallest measurement.

If I'm correct, Helmes recommends at minimum 8 points of measurement evenly spaced around the rotor.
