Cap and Rotor Replacement Question
Hey List,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a step by step for replacing the cap and rotor? I'm about to do it on my 95 Jetta and was looking for some advice and help. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance, Clay |

Re: Cap and Rotor Replacement Question
Hey Clay, it would help to know what type of engine so here is what I know about a 4 cylinder engines courtesy of the Bentley service manual.
1.Unclip and remove the distributor cap. 2. Inspect the contacts inside the distributor cap & at the tip of the rotor for carbon tracks, wear, or pitting. 3.If any faults are found, replace the cap and rotor. Easy job, much easier if I knew the type of four cylinder either a 1.8 or a 2.0. Well here you have it hope it helps you out. Tacuvito. |

Removing the Rotor?
Thanks for the advice- I got the cap off this weekend and inspected it very closely. There was some carbon trails and such. I couldn't get the rotor off. Does it simply lift up? Is there a catch?
It's a 2.0 engine. Thanks, Clay |

Re: Cap and Rotor Replacement Question
I don't think it has a retaining clip but look closely at the rotor it just might. It might also be that the rotor has been in there too long and it has become stubborn to come out. Use a little mirror since sometimes its a bit difficult to look in there. Your local 99cent store should stock them. Be careful not to move the position of the rotor or else you will mess with the timing of the car. hope this helps out. I will try to look at my books to see if I can find more info on it. I will be off the computer for the next two days so please forgive the tardyness. Well, hope that what have given you helps you out.
