Some what of wierd problem

K i installed Kamakaze headers, High Flow Cat, and Tanabe exhaust on mycar and at low rpm it made sound like i had a cracked exhaust or something, so i changed my exhaust manifold gasket and that didnt help, i still hear it but not as much, exactly how much are you suppose to titen the dam header to the head? i freaken stripped bolts doing it now i have to take it off and put on new bolts the other problem is there is wierd smel near my header aread, someone told me i may be running to rich but i dont know, and when i took off the header the second time there was black stuff on the head where teh header attaches. So its realy pissing me off could the smell be cause of the cat? and the fact that my new exhaust is totaly different then the exhaust hx stock once usualy have?

the car is a 1997 civic hx coupe.

Have a VTEC controller? It sounds like you are running too rich... Also, it sounds like your catalyetic converter isn't fitting up correctly, which would account for the bad sound and smell.

what will a vtec controller do for me running to rich? and it might be the cat actualy cause they put it on kinda wierd but ill get it checked, also how can i fix my running to rich problem? or is there something i can where that would benefit me?
