Unhappy D15B - Lack of power problem

Guys/Gals,

I'm driving a 92 JDM EG8 Civic with a SOHC-VTEC engine (D15B). The problem I'm having is that the car doesn't seems to accelerate like it suppose to be. When I do WOT, it only makes a lot of air-sucking noise without a smooth forward motion. I've tried my friend's Civic (1.6 SI) and there's a different. I suspected it a fuel delivering problem. Changed the fuel filter but not much improvement. Next will check the fuel pressure, but if any of you out there has any idea, I really appreciate it.

Thanks

Uhhhh, its a 1.5l ... and a D series... what do you expect! Trust me, not even the SOHC VTEC helps. But, honestly I dont know what to tell you about what might be the problem ~ but nothing a B16 DOHC VTEC swap couldnt fix

And welcome to AF!

yeah, I know a D15 will never match the big brother. Done a port & polish plus engine balancing. I was expecting a smooth power delivery but the thing is, it was not. Power delivery was quite bad (feels heavy) between 1-3K rpm but after 3K+ rpm, there seems to be a slight kick and power was smooth. Really puzzling.

Thanks

You did a port and polish on YOUR motor and now it seems fugged up?

Check air/fuel ... could be a variety of problems that just happened to come out after the P&P... injectors, dirty fluids causing clogging... how many miles on the motor ~ shape of the motor? Maybe its time to break down and give her a good rebuild?

Re: D15B - Lack of power problem

i think its a conspiracy i just put a JDM D15B 130 horsepower engine into my 92 civic VX hatch and it runs but when you get on it .... its like it surges its like its sucking in alot of air but its not moving any faster??? ..... the old engine had an egr system that the D15B does NOT use so i unhook all that system... when i ran for error codes it gives me the TPS sensor is out of wack and O2 sensor.. the old engine used a 5 wire O2 sensor and the new engine uses a Single wire and i havent hooked it up... since i dont know how to repin to a single wire and as for the tps sensor i have no idea how to fix that and the ecu i have is a P08J wich it supost to be able to run a JDM d15B perfect but it doesnt odviously...

i have the exact same engine and it runs great not fast but good.maybe try checking your throttle body positioning cause if the cable is not pulling open the throttle plate like it should be then it wont mix the right amount of air with fuel
