Help with auto door lock problem??

My door locks on my 1999 suburban seem to be losing power when trying to open my doors with the switch inside the car as well as the remote control. It works fine sometimes but it also will act like there is not enough power to make the locks go up and down, when it does this there is a clicking noise I hear under the the steering wheel area. I wouldn't think it is a fuse since it does work sometimes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -Stuart Carter

Re: Help with auto door lock problem??

I have a 97 sub, with the same problem. I can hear the relay clicking from somewhere under the dash. I hope you post your results of replacing. If you don't mind me asking, what was the price of the replacement?
thanks

The REAL problem and how to fix it!!

I have a 1999 K2500 Suburban and have had the same problems that you are having. I am the Sales/Marketing Manager for a large motor coach company and had my Maintenance Manager look at the problem. After a quick inspection of the actuators in each door, he determined that the actuator motors had worn out!!! Chevrolet wanted $80 each for actuator and that was more than I wanted to shell out. I searched online and found aftermarket actuators at A-1 Electric (www.a1electric.com) for only $29.95 each. They arrived yesterday (all 4). We installed them last night and voila...all locks work with both the door switch and remote like the truck just left the factory!!!!!!
Good Luck.

I have a 99 Suburban and the power door lock for the front passenger door does not work properly. (It moves very slightly). I assume the actuator needs replacement. I need help with removing the interior door panel. Does anyone know how to remove it?

Thanks

You will need to purchase an "uphosterly removal tool" for about $10 at an automotive parts store. There are approx. 8 plastic spined pins that stick into small gromets around the outer rim of the door panel. They are about 3 inches in from the edge of the door trim. SLOWLY & GENTLY pry each one of them out of their gromet to take the door panel off. Get a bag of 12 new pins and gromets (at your local Chevy/GM dealership...about $1 each) to replace the ones that you will break during removal and reinstallation, so that your door won't rattle.

actuators

I replaced the relay, hoping the easy and inexpensive fix would work. It didn't.
Out of the 5 doors, only the driver door locks/unlocks when the button is pushed. Are the actuators wired in series so if the passenger door actuator doesn't work nothing else behind it will work, or is it just a coincidence that the 4 would all fail at roughly the same time?

thanks
