Question Trans Help in 79' Trans Am

Hi. Just installed a B&M shift kit in my 350 trans. Having a couple problems that I didn't before the install.

1. When shifted into reverse it feels like it goes into gear but, doesn't move until you feather the accelerator. Then moves slowly like it's not completely in gear.

2. Will not shift into 2nd gear until engine rpm's hit 5,000.

I have checked the fluid and vacuum lines, both seem fine. Linkage is also good.

Couple questions I have from comments from a friend.

1. Do you need to fill the torque converter before re-install? (I have never done that in the past with any other cars I have owned)
2. Could the vacuum modulator be bad on the tranny? (I degreased, power washed, and painted the tranny before re-install) maybe I got water in it or something?

Thanks for any help,

Scott

Re: Trans Help in 79' Trans Am

sounds like a bad cross leak in the valve body, or a check ball in the wrong hole. the other thing to do a late shift could possibly be a sticking governor

Response to help

Hi. Thanks for the response. A quick note. I just installed a new vacuum modulator. Helped a little bit. Shifts at a lower rpm. Still doesnt seem quite right. Instead of 1st to 2nd gear at 5000 rpm now its 4000 rpm.

Back to your response --

What would I look for if it's a cross leak in the valve body?

I did remove 3 check balls when I installed the shift kit. But everything was done per the B&M instructions. One was put back in.

And as far as the governor. Where is that located? Can I see it if I drop the tranny pan?

Thanks for all your help,

Scott
