71' Old 455 fit into 79' Trans Am?

Anyone ever put a Buick 455 in a trans am? Don't know if the shaker hood will close of if the shaker will fit on the carb. Just bought a '79 TA and the 455 is mounted without the manifold or carb. Want to know if I rebuild the 455, will the hood close over the shaker for a perfect fit just like the Pontiac 455.

The Olds 455 is a big block and all Pontiacs have the same dimensions as a big block. So it should fit. You'd just need to watch which manifold you use on the Olds, no high rise manifolds.

Thanks Morley. It appears that the carb location is about 2" too far back as well. Is there a manifold that will locate the carb closer forward?

That I don't know. Try calling Summit Racing's tech line and see if they have something. If they don't have one or know, contact these guys http://www.mondellotwister.com/
