97 astro hard shift

Hi. I'm having trouble with a hard shift between first and second gear on my 97 Astro with 100k miles on it. The engine light is on,had it checked only to find out I have a transmission problem. What a brilliant deduction! GM dealer suggested I have a transmission service which I did but did not help.
This problem happens only after the van is hot. If I turn it off for 2 minutes the hard shift disappears until 20 minutes later.
Any ideas what is going on and what the fix is?
Thanks
Paul

Paul, I have the same problem, 97 Astro 110,000 miles. I just had the dealer service the trans, flush, new fluid and fiter. It works a little better but still shifts hard after it warms up. Have you had any luck with a fix?.

Re: 97 astro hard shift

I had the same problem with my 98 chevy astro van. It does this after the transmission warms up. The dealer knows about it and the fix is a gasket kit 4.265 in the transmission. Part cost about $13.04, total cost to fix is about 323.00 dollars. Reason why they have to overhaul tranmission to install it. Sucks but has to be done, else live with the hard shifting. Hope this helps you....
