95 sl hard shift and hard start

I just bought a 95 saturn sl, it only had 105,000 miles on and when i test drove it it drove great. Well now a week later every problem that can happen is. My biggest prob is that when i drive the car for 5 - 10 minutes and shut it off, the next time I start it i have to put the pedal to the floor and it starts no prob. The next thing is that it now is harder than heck to shift. I cant get it into first and second on up is hard to. It is a 5 speed. I read a few of the threads on this and changed the ETCS , and I still got nothing. Please help...FAST!!

gas or clutch pedal?

i'm assuming clutch pedal, chances are the clutch is not fully releasing, make sure the floor mat isn't shoved behind the pedal, and the clutch safety switch is properly adjusted. after that replacing the clutch and hydraulics may be needed.

Did you reset the PCM after the ECT change?

If not, pull the PCM-B Fuse,
Or unplug your neg. cable on your battery,
For 15 seconds to 5 minutes, your call on time

Re: 95 sl hard shift and hard start

i have a 92 sc and in the last few days it has been been getting fairly hard to shift through the gears its a 5 spd. If i double clutch it seems to help but normal shifting is hard....I had a new clutch/throughout bearing installed a few months ago so im assuming its not that.
What can cause these sorts of problems

don't assume that, were the hydraulics replaced also?
check the ATF level and color.

is it hard to shift or grinding gears?

Re: Re: Re: 95 sl hard shift and hard start

im assuming atf is automatic transmission fluid but i was told you couldnt check in a manual tranny which mine is....and its a combination of hard to get in and also sometimes grinding. i was told to check the clutch cable under the car and also to look for a place to put fludid in by the where the brake fluid goes, is this correct?

Re: 95 sl hard shift and hard start

you can check the tran fluid level but its a little bit of a pain, its a red dipstick deep behind the battery. flip it up to release the seal, then put it out.

there is no clutch cable, the hydralic system replaces the cable. there are however shifter cables. they sometimes strech but more likey on saturns the retainer clips wear out, but that causes more of a looseness feeling.

the hydralic system should be replaced ever time the clutch is replaced, a saturn dealership should do this automaticly, most indepentent shops won't. where the hydralics replaced when the clutch was replaced?

Side question: (I love side questions )

I dont need to flip mine up, I knew the seal was worn out on it and that you were supposed to flip it up,

My question is, is this bad enough I should replace it quickly?
Is a small amount of moisture, due to humididty a big concern here?

Re: 95 sl hard shift and hard start

my seal is worn out too, but i don't plan on replacing it quite yet, but then again, my transmission isn't in the car.

honestly i don't know how important it is to keep sealed, i know its not good, but not quite as critical as a auto trans. tell you what, when i rebuild my trans, i'll tell you if any damage was done. so expext a answer some time about a year from now......or maybe you should just replace it.
