Well, the gearing won't be taller. That's why the tire sidewall is soo small, to accommodate for the extra rim size.

The only thing 20" rims will have are all disadvantages.
-Heavy rims=slower acceleration
-super low profile tires=expensive to replace
-Very small sidewall=very bumpy/horriable ride
-heavier rotating mass=harder to stop
-More rim, less sidewall=more pinch flats
-More rim, less tires=pothole dings
-Rims that cost more then car=Priceless!

Re: Disadvantags

They'll look horrible to boot. Just get a clean set of 18s.

Highflo even with a tiny sidewalled tire the extra inches would increase the gearing a tiny bit i'm pretty sure. Theres a gearing calcutator out there somewhere i think Mazdas roadster club .com or somthing like that has one if i can find it i'll link it its a great thing to use for picking wheels and tires.

Not so.
Take my car for an example. Currently I have 16" rims with roughly a 4.5" sidewall and an overall height of 25". With my old 15" rims, there was roughly a 5" sidewall, and still retained an overall height of 25". Now an overall height of 25" is pretty common on these cars, so running a 20" rim will leave you with 5" to spare or a 2.5" sidewall.

So starting with a stock tire size of 225/60/15 and you want to increase the rim size, you will have to come down 5 on the sidewall for every inch you increase the rims by.
225/60/15
225/55/16
225/50/17
225/45/18
225/40/19
225/35/20

Will add tire wear, add weight and might put your car higher if you change it all for them.
