Tail gate cables

Anyone having problems with tail gate cables corroding and breaking on the 1999 models? Mine broke through and Chevy is not recalling that year. The problem seems the same as the models for 2000-2004. I am just wondering if the problem with these cables is not larger than GM knows about. Thanks.

My 98 has already broke one. Another screw job on the recall to us!

GM's reply to me was that my truck is a 99 and not on this recall and that it has 67,000 miles. I asked him what the 67,000 miles had to do with anything. I guess they just don't want to admit having a bigger problem than the 4 years (2000-2004). What a shame.

Re: Tail gate cables

My friend has a 2000 S10 that the cables gave out on, completely rusted. No recall on the S-10, but I guarentee they're the same cables, same manufacturing, same problem, just probably less complaints.

Re: Tail gate cables

When I'm not towing my quad I use aluminum ramps and drive up into the bed, this whole thing with the faulty cables makes me nervous, all I need is for one to snap and my 450lb quad sitting on top of me . Chevy told me mines not covered by the recall so Im considering just buying new ones myself.

I busted 'em both at the same time! 2000 Silverado 2500. There was no recall at the time, so I picked up some new ones at the junkyard, but they aren't reinforced, there the same ones. I'll get new ones though.

Where can I pick up info on the recall? The dealer here says he is not aware of it. Says he knows it is a problem just has no info on a recall.
