A friend has an S-10 pickup, I believe it is a 01 or 02 model. His tailgate strap broke on one side, so he bought another piece. He cannot seem to get the old part off though. It is all one piece including the sping loaded plunger that goes inside the tailgate, and he can't get it disconnected from whatever is inside the gate that connects it to the release lever.
Is there a cable that goes out to each side, and how do you disconnect it from this strap/latch piece? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Replacing broken tail-gate strap?
No clues on this yet? Does anyone have a service manual that may diagram what is inside the tail-gate?
Will try and call a dealership tomorrow for suggestions too...
