1.start with the ignition off door close, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel, turn ignition key on,off,on,off.release power unlock button on the door panel .the locks will cycle once.2.hold down the key fob lock and unlock buttons for about 30 seconds.the locks will again cycle once.repeat step 2 for additional key fob turn ignition to exit programming mode

Keyless remote not working on my 2001 Silverado

I have a 2001 Silverado and neither of my fobs work (replaced both with fresh batteries) I tried resetting the fobs by holding Lock and Unlock on the fob for 7 seconds, as stated in my manual. No response from my truck.

I just tried kdoldon's technique. I was able to get the door locks to cycle by getting inside, holding the unlock button on the door while turning ignition on-off-on-off. But when I tried to hold the fob's Lock and Unlock for a full 5 minutes, nothing happened. I tried this with both fobs. no luck.

I'm thinking I may have a problem with the remote entry's receiver? Does anyone know where this is located and how I might check this?

Thanks alot,

Rich. (greensilver)

RICH THE RECEIVER IS LOCATED UNDER DASH ABOVE STERRING WHEEL YOU HAVE TO TAKE TOP OF DASH OFF TO GET TO IT,ARE THESE THE FOB'S THAT CAME WITH TRUCK IF NOT GO TO GM PARTS DEPT. AND GAVE THEM YOUR VIN NUMBER AND THEY WILL GAVE YOU THE PART NUMBER OF THE FOB,MAKE SURE IT MATCHS THE FOB PART NUMBER BEFORE REPLACING THE RECEIVER I HAVE NEVER SEE I RECEIVER GO BAD IT'S MORE LIKELY YOU HAVE WRONG FOBS

If these are correct fob's I would try to find a cheap replacement on ebay before I tackled getting to the receiver.

Thanks Kdolson. Both fobs came with the truck. Both worked great for 2 years. 6 months ago, I started to notice the reception distance lesson; I installed new batteries (both fobs), have been playing around with reprogramming for months now. Yours was the first suggestion that gave me more than the paragraph in the manual did. Still no luck.

Unless you have any other suggestions, I will probably just have to bend over and take it to the dealer (ouch!).

Thanks again,

Rich.

Be sure to hold the fobs close to the dash while holding the buttons down. If it doesn't work move to the other side of the steering wheel and try again.

remote entry

My 2000 Silverado was having the same problem. The security light did not come on and fobs would not unlock or lock. I tried kdolson's method and now the security light works but the fob is not. I changed the battery and still nothing. This all began after a hand car wash and detail. I noticed below the dash under the steering column a switch hanging down. It has a long metal rod that can be turned or pushed. What is this? Also if the fob is bad, where can I buy another?
Thanks!
