Question Keyless programming for 2000 Impala?

Hi all,
Nice forum in here.
I've tried several of the programming methods offered herein to program a replacement fob (it matches the numbers of existing one) I picked up on eBay for my in-laws' 2000 Impala. I figured: How many methods to enter GM vehicles' programming mode could there be? I've realized that the answer is: A lot! My fear is that a scan tool may be needed for this particular year. There was another hapless soul seeking the answer to this problem in the Chevy Impala forum and I haven't heard from him about this. His unanswered post dated Nov. 2002.
Thanks all.
Take care.
Joe

You need a scanner for this one, but here is the procedure anyway.

Transmitter Programming
In the event that a transmitter is lost, program the old and the new transmitters into the memory of the remote control door lock receiver. Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.

Important
Once the keyless entry receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the transmitters.

Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If you program multiple receivers simultaneously, the same transmitter may possibly be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.

The following procedure describes how to program the remote control door lock transmitters to the remote control door lock receiver using the Tech 2®.

Perform the following steps:

Connect the scan tool to the following components:
An applicable power source
The vehicle data link connector (DLC)
Turn the ignition ON.
At the application menu screen, select F0 (body control module).
At the body control module screen, select F2 (special functions).
At the special functions menu screen, select F3 (program key fobs).
Follow the directions on the scan tool display in order to program the transmitters.
Press EXIT repeatedly until you view the application menu screen.
Disconnect the scan tool from the following components:
The accessory power port
The vehicle DLC

Thank you for your post, John. It's helpful in that I can now focus my attention on sneaking off with the in-laws' car to get it done at a dealership. They think I'm captain marvel and I don't want to burst their bubble!
Take care,
Joe

Re: Keyless programming for 2000 Impala?

Can you program a remote for this car without buying any scanner; just with the remote and the car?
Thanks
