Re: resetting computer

you can do it one of two ways.

1. unhook the negative battery terminal for a minute or so and hook it back up

or

2. remove the ECU fuse under the hood for a minute. this will prevent you from having to reset your clock and/or stereo settings

I actually reset my ecu by pulling the hazard fuse out for 10 secs and plucked it back in. But since this thread is up, I have a question. Is it true that when the ecu stores a trouble code it runs in safe mode? and if it does, what does safe mode do exactly?

Re: resetting computer

I've never heard of a ECU run at safe mode!! But if it's anything like a computer it's going to run with the minimum requirements to get the car going. Dont quote me on that though...

Re: resetting computer

I dunno about safe mode, sometimes after resetting mine the car idled high (like 3000 rpm) for awhile. When it would do this I would just let it go it was usually the ECU mapping itself back out.

As for the eating gas thing, yea its possible. Some other cars I know like DSM's will do that when you reset their ECU's. The computer is running alot of gas till it gets a feel for the A/F ratio of the engine. Hence when you change something like the amount of air comming into your engine with a intake, its good to reset the ECU so it can re-learn and make the most outta the extra air comming in. Takes only a good solid day or two of driving you'll never notice a MPG change with it, not on a honda lol.

At first, I always disconnected the battery cable. But after words, it's hell trying to set all your radio stations and clock back to my settings. It's totally worth taking the hazard fuse out. And the safe mode thing, yeah I did notice how my engine sucked more gas after resetting it. The air/fuel meter on the pillar just went back and forth till it finally settled in the middle. I have yet to notice any difference after resetting it so maybe the safe mode is nothing to worry about. That's what these forums are for.....right?
