Thick white smoke
My 94 jetta has been blowing thick white smoke out of the exhaust. It doesn't smell like coolant, or like oil, only like gas. a lot of gas. problem????

Re: Thick white smoke
I had a 91 galant vr-4 turbo before I bought my jetta, and it started to do this right before i got rid of it, and it was the turbo failing. do you have a turbo in your jetta?

Re: Thick white smoke
Does it seem more like steam or smoke? Steam will disappear a few feet from the car, while smoke lingers indefinitely. Are you losing water from the cooling system?

The smoke does linger. it leaves a pretty big cloud behind it. The coolant level is fine, at least it was the other day.

Re: Thick white smoke
How many miles? Check for oil fouling on the spark plugs. Do a compression test, possibly bad/broken piston rings. Compression should be 142-186 psi, with a minimum of 106 psi & max variation betwen cylinders of 43 psi.
