turn signal flashing wildly

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what to look for when my turn signal just starts flashing wildly?

In the manual it says that the bulb is bad. But the bulb still works.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Susan

Re: turn signal flashing wildly

I had the same problem with my 96 T $ C so took apart the signals (not hard to do) and made sure that all the contacts were clean and secure. It stopped after that. But I still cannot get my reverse light on the passenger side working new bulb and all. I may need to replace the housing thats next. Ride On, digimon

turn signals flashing wildly -FYI solved it

Hi Digimon,

Thank you for your posting. It turned out that one of my driving lights were out. Once I replaced the bulb at Kragen Auto parts store, the flashing stopped. I didn't need a new fuse like I thought either.

Thanks again,

Susan

Re: turn signal flashing wildly

I had the same quick flashing problem with my left turn signal on my 1999 Grand Voyager. When I examined the situation closely, I noticed that only my rear signal blinked, as the front signal did not work altogether. I managed to fix this by replacing the front turn signal bulb. However, there are some details to consider. The bulb itself has two elements, one for the turn signal and Daylight Running Light (this maybe Canadian models only), and the other for the parking light (which also turns on when the headlights are on). Since it was the turn signal/Daylight Runiing Light element that failed, the parking light still worked. If you are not aware that the bulb has two elements, this symptom can be confusing. For fellow Canadians, you can purchase the replacement bulb at Canadian Tire (pack of 2 for $5). However, please note that these are the same bulbs as the rear lights, so you want the one that is tinted orange. The untinted ones still work, but then you have white colour turn signals. Replacing the bulb itself is quite difficult. In the front wheel well you will notice a circular cap just beneath the headlight assembly. YOu can twist this cap off, which gives you access to the signal light bulb assembly. A mirror is real useful to see up the access port. You will have to fish around to find the turn signal bulb holder. GIve it a 90 degree turn counterclockwise to unscrew it. Before you do so, please note the orientation of the wire harness so that when it comes time to remount it, you can reorient in this same position again. Once you unscrew the bulb holder, it is relatively easy to fish out of the wheel well. Replacing the bulb in the holder is easy, but putting it back is another story. Since you can't really see where the holder goes, you need to remember its orientation according to its wire harness. Remember to turn clockwise 90 degrees to remount it. When the bulb holder is properly seated, the filament is vertical. Good Luck! Doug Peng, Toronto [email protected]

Re: turn signal flashing wildly

Regarding signal bulb replacement, I just remove the lens assembly. In the end it takes about the same amount of time after trying to orientate every thing blind, less aggravation & my hand's not all scratched up.
