illegal lights?

i was thinking of replacing the amber bulbs in my turn signals to white bulbs. does anybody know if this would be considered illegal? thought the white bulbs would look better than the amber ones on a white car.

Re: illegal lights?

Yes they are, period. I'm sure this will get 20 replies after me with stories of cops letting people off blah blah blah, but bottom line is they're illegal. The rear signals must be red or amber, so they're illegal in the rear as well.

I have hyperwhites up front because I'm stubborn, and red signals in the rear.

That's not fully true...and this isn't from a cop. Honestly, it varies state to state. Some states it's illegel, some it isn't, check with your DMV. I know in Oregon, it's not. Your front turn signals have to be Amber, White, or Yellow. The rears have to be Amber or Red. I went to DMV awhile ago and asked this, and they told me that and showed me a copy of the law, which I kept in my car for the longest time (which helps, as I ran into a cop who was told by his superior it wasn't legel). The point is, I'd assume it's illegel until you check the local DMV laws. Some states allow amber, white, or yellow front turn signals, others don't allow whites. Since we arn't front your state, we can't tell you. Go check with the state dept. of motor vehicles or Dept. of transportation, and then ask to see a copy of the law in the drivers manaul or wherever it's listed.
