Re: oil leak :(

Saying it comes from the drivers side of the car doesnt really narrow it down. Here is a list of what can leak on that side of the motor.

Either of the cam seals
Oil pump drive seal
Front main seal
Fron bshaft seal
oil pump cover gasket
oil filter housing gasket
oil cooler to housing seal
oil filter seal
oil pressure guage sender
oil pressure idiot light sender
turbo oil feed line

I have had most if not all of these leaks at some point, and the vast majority come right after a motor install The first 4-6 items would/could come from behind the timing belt cover, so it requries some dissaembly to find it.

Before driving the car again I would highly suggest pulling the uppermost tming belt cover and checking for oil on the tbelt. Oil will eat at the rubber over time. It can also help narrow down where it could be coming from...

Re: oil leak :(

ok i found where the leak is coming from but i don't know what it is called...so here is a description...

i jacked up my car, let it run a few minutes while i layed under it....found the leak. it's coming from this bolt right next to the brass oil pressure sending unit...the thing is, i can't get a wrench up there to tighten it because of the angle...the bolt seems to be 7/8"...anyone know what this is and how i can fix it?
thanks for the help guys

Re: oil leak :(

I believe that is not a bolt, but I think I know what you are refering to. I dont have one here to look at (garage is 40 minutes away) so I Cant be sure. But the first thing I would do is try to tighten that. If you have to remove the sender, no big deal. Just keep a pan under it. You'll lose a few cupfulls of oil most likely. Just be sure its coming from there, and not from above it making it look like its coming from there. Get under there with some brake cleaner and douche the whole oil filter housing. Then watch it again. Sounds like it could be an easy enough fix if you are lucky...

Re: oil leak :(

ok i found the part in my repair manual...it's called the relief valve plug...and it also has a gasket...so i'm thinking it's either not tightened enough or the gasket may be bad...i'm going to run it over to my mecahnic tomorrow and see what he says...shouldn't cost anything cause it's all still under warranty i'm just hoping it really is this simple and not something more complex...but yes i'm sure this is where the oil is leaking from.

Re: oil leak :(

I replaced mine yesterday, and i know what you are talking about when you say the angle, I fixed mine at a performance shop and they let me just use their tools, what you need is a 7/8 deepsocket once you get that puppy out the gsket is very accesable...be carefull! there are 2 hoses that run to it and if it falls off coolant will start pouring out...thats wat happened to me :-) no fun cause it was really hot and i couldnt stop it...(still have an oil leak tho...all that work for nuthin...good luck with yours
