Apexi N1 good? and piping question
Hey guys. I was looking at cat backs and am thinking of getting the apexi N1 for my 2000 prelude. Would that be a good decision? Also how big is the piping on the N1? I think I read it's either 2.25 or 2.5 inch.

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
Any high flow cat back is better than your stock. I just took a Magnaflow High Flow cat and two high flow mufflers and fabricated a 2.25 inch custom piping system. If I could do it again, I would have gone 2.75".

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
i herd its pointless to go higher then 2.5 ' if ur car is NA too much backpreassure i think? and im just wondering Prelude707 does sound matter to you? cuz the n1 has a really high pitched sound unless u use the silencer. and if ur gonna go NA i say u just get the entire cat-back system instead of spending the extra cash for the custom piping. Im pretty sure ive seen n1's come in a 2.5 inch diameter. I personally want a Greddy EVO

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
I hate the ugly tin can ricer mufflers that full catback manufacturers sell.
It doesnt hurt to have a large diameter mandrel bent pipe. Any less restriction, the better. The best system would ideally be no system at all.

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
Its got an ugly giant tip I can do without. Personally, I dont care about what my car sounds like. All I care about is getting less restriction.

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
Listen, a 2.5" pipe that ends in a 5" tip is decorative, and not so functional. But I guess it is difficult to get a performance catback without a rice rocket end.

Well the exhaust came in a few days ago, but I'm waiting for my hi-flow cat before installing it. I wish I had read this before ordering, I would have put more thought into it. But what's done is done so I can only hope it sounds ok. I wonder how a tip that big will look on a prelude. Maybe I should have gone smaller. Though Apexi is still a good exhaust.

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
GReddy sounds awesome. I have it on my 4th gen SI. Makes the car look a bit ass heavy though, from the side. The actual muffler part of it does a good job restricting noise. It's about as big as the stock system.
As for 2.75" piping, have fun with your loss of torque.. That size is almost turbo territory. If your exhaust gasses are just falling out of your ports, there will be no vacuum to help pull in intake air during valve overlap.

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
Actually, 2.5 is pretty much turbo zone start.

Re: Apexi N1 good? and piping question
yeah thats why i was asking if 2.75' is too big i thought for a NA car u dont want bigger then 2.5' and for turbo u want atleast a 3' diameter becuase of the backpreassure
