Ok, I have read some of the links on the FAQ and did some searching on the forum, but my question is this:
Where do I start? Personally, I started with the handling and braking, putting crossdrilled rotors, wider tires, and eibach springs (have them, but not installed yet). I wanted to make sure the car could handle the extra power. Now I am ready to move to the engine. What is the first logical step? ECU? Fuel Rail? Pipes? Header? I have a B16Y8 96ex Auto Tranny. I want to start inthe most logical order so I don't blow anything and have to get a new engine when I am not prepared for it. Thanks, Krs Last edited by krstofer; 05-11-2004 at 05:44 PM. |

oops, didn't realize I put the C in the D16Y8. :-) I was going through so many posts.....
Anyway, already I learned something new. I could not figure out what i/h/e/ meant and could not find the meaning so thanks. I was going to start with the intake, so I got that right. Is it headers OR turbo or both? I was reading the turbo FAQ (i think) and I didn't get it. I think it was turbo replaces header. Is that right? Not gonna do an engine swap, just a build of the one I have. Krs |

Re: Headers and fuel rails and pipes... oh my.
right now on ur car i think might (be different with the d16y8 ) is an exhaust maniflod and the headers replace that to give u more power. for the turbo the turbo mounts up to a manifold(different one form the stock one). to get a turbo u do have to replace either the headers u put on tehre or ur stock manyfold. so if u were u id decide if id go all motor or turbo bc there is no point in buying parts that will end up gettign replaced

there's so much more that you should do before going turbo, build the motor first.

Re: Headers and fuel rails and pipes... oh my.
what you want to look for in a turbo cam is less overlap and duration. Since you are shoving air into the cylinders. You don't need the valves to be open for a long period of time.

Re: Headers and fuel rails and pipes... oh my.
I am not positive I will go with a turbo. I will do exhaust and intake first then see where to go from there.
The reason why this is confusing to me is most of the cars I've owned in the past were minimum 350HP. The civic is the least powerful car I have ever owned. I know about changing Exhaust, headers and carburators. the most powerful engine I was lucky enough to have was a v-8 460hp ford with a 4 barrel holley carb and straight pipes with glass-pacs. Now I don't want to try to hit 460hp, but I need more that what the stock engine is pumping. |
