Bottoming Out
My 1999 Ram 1500 ( 31000 miles )bottoms out (front end) whenever I drive over a dip in the road. Could this be a sign I need new shocks? If so , what type. Thanks.

Definitely need new shocks. The stock shocks are usually shot by 15,000-20,000 miles. Monroe and Gabriel make good shocks. Im running SkyJacker off road shocks, their a bit stiffer then stock, but they handle great.

I have 125,000 and I have the original and they are great. Do you do the paris drakar rally every weekend or something?

Re: Bottoming Out
WOW.
Sure would be funny if the bottoming out turns out to be bad sway bar bushings, huh....? Bad shocks? Since when did a shock hold up a truck? Here I go again.....

Re: Bottoming Out
SLANTSIXNESS (TOM) HAS A GOOD POINT. Check out the rest of your suspension before you replace the shocks. Yes, there were a few years that did come off the line with "bad" shocks but, not to many did. The rubber suspension system is a weak point for 1, try Energy Suspension, Polyeurathane will last a lot longer and wont give into things like oil, fuel...contamination. Also, how much wieght are you carring on this? Does this happen under an empty load? How big are these pot holes or so called dips in the road?
