Unhappy HELP! 92 Accord dropped 2 inches and is either hitting bump stop or bottoming out

I have a 92 accord EX 2dr, I have had this car dropped w/ spring 1.5F and .75 Rear for 3 yrs with no problem. I went to DMV and the failed me for inspection because one of my shocks was blown. I had my mechanic put on some max speed coilovers and some kyb gr-2. I then dropped it about 2.75F and 1.5R. I notice the when I went over a big bump something was hitting HAARD!
1. the shock was bottoming out.
2. or I was hitting the bump stop.

I raised the car up to 1.5F and .75R and the car was still hitting but not as hard. I bought the KYB gr-2 back and he got me some better shock I don't know the name but they are definate stiffer. He test drove it and said it did not hit. I then asked him to lowr it to about 2 finger between tire and wheel well, aproximately 2.25F and 1.75R. It still hits but not as hard.

What is going on, I am puzzled?

if it sounds like a metal bang, it's your shock/strut setup for sure. If you don't hear that metal clacking all the time while driving your tapping your bump stops making it a pack mule of a bumpy ride.

do you have any type of camber kit in the front? it could be your a-arm hitting the fender well

Strodda they emailed me about the problem and my friend said that might be what it was too. I haven't heard from them again though.

I can almost guarantee that your shocks are bottoming out. I used to have coil overs on my car, and I had it slammed and it used to do the same thing. Raising it up only minimized the problem. I ended up getting lowering springs and have never had a problem since. I'm now having the problem of being too low and scraping on the slightest of inclines. It never ends. I think I will get air bags now!!:sun:

I can totally relate to the scraping...I'm still surprised I haven't got stuck on a speed bump yet.

Unhappy Confused and tired of wasting money.

I have brought it to my mechanic and had some stiffer shocks put on it still bottoms out but not as hard. I had him check the control Arm he said it definately was not that. I looked at coil overs (Max Speed) it look like it might be bottoming out he said it definately is not that.

My next step is to get some smaller bump stop. This is really irritating & frustrating me. I a planning on doing a H22 conversion but I need to get my suspension straight first else what is the point.

I am also thinking about getting the shocks that are made for a droped suspension but have heard that they right extremely hard and don't last long any other suggestion..

AGAIN, THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES AND HELP!!!!

I'm sorry you are still having problems. Try the bump stops. It might work.

Who is your mechanic? Is it like a Honda mechanic or someone at a performance shop?

I
Don't get all stressed about getting it perfect before you do the swap, cause you need to keep in mind that the H22 is a substantially larger and heavier motor and this will have an effect on your suspension. Get it safe and comfortable but don't go overboard until you do your swap. That's IMO!!

Ok, it does sound like it was said before, your a-arm is hitting the top of your fender well, a common problem with 4th gens, but this applies only if youve got a camber kit, or are sitting 1/2" off the ground. IF it is your struts bottming out, its not going to hit as hard as you say it is, unless, you have NO bumpstops at all, or its just going to be HELLA bouncy, trust me, ive ridden in many completely dumped 4th gens with all blown struts and they dont even bottom out like that, they just bounce everywhere really bad. so, making your bumpstop smaller, would not be a very good idea, though yes, your normally would make it smaller when lowering your car, but if its hitting metal on metal that hard with a full bumpstop, then i think cutting that buffer zone in half, or none at all would be a bad mistake.

Smile Think I have found problem

I checked my suspension and notice that coilover don't have very much room to compress. I ran this by my mechnanic before but he ruled it out. I again insisted to him that I believe that had to be the problem. My car is only dropped 2 inches and the front 1/2 more than before and I was not experiencing this probem. He put it up on the lift and put a rim on one of the side and lowered the lift and I was right. The car is dropped 2 inches and the coilovers only have about 2 inches travel when I go over a bump. I guess the did not do to much research on developing this product for my car, funny thing he is telling me that H&R makes these coilover called "Max Speed", I find this hard to believe. Any way he got some different coilover coming in next week so I will see the results. Just hope they are not too stiff.

Alot of the time coilovers and accords fight with each other. I have yet to hear of them playing nice. I hope you get it all fixed though.

Talking Everything is OK now! THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP

My mechanic got me so r-active coilover with dual spring rates. Rides Great, it is a little stiffer thatn before but it is no longer bottoming out. I just need to get some 17" wheels and fix my rust spots by the rear wheel well.
