93 Cutlass Supreme Engine Questions/Big Problem caused by engine flush

I will make a long story short. I went to an oil change place. They drained all my oil out and filled the engine up with Gumout Professional Engine Flush. The car started knocking loud as soon as they hit the key with it in the motor. They ran the stuff for a few minutes with the motor pounding that night. I made it 3 blocks up the street after leaving that night. The motor began knocking very loud.

I now have a motor that is knocking and getting worse. The guy promised me free additive if I let him look at it again. I drove it back up there (20 miles alltogether). He couldn't wait to get rid of me.

Taking the guy to court is an option. If I try to fix it, is there any chance that I can fix it without pulling the engine out? It is loud after running a few minutes and is close to throwing a rod. Where are the motor mounts located? I see the one on the front by the radiator, but can't find the back ones. Would putting new bearings in it do any good or is this motor toast? What would you do? (besides taking him to court, beating on him, etc.)

I'm a grown man, but hearing that motor knock almost makes me want to cry. That was a really nice car until this happened. Thank you.

I would definatly take them to court and sue them. The gumout is strictly a detergent and provides very little lubrication. Try to find a bottle of the stuff they used and see what the directions say. I'm sure it says drain only a quart of oil and replace that drained quart with the cleaner. As far as your motor goes, it sounds like its totally destroyed. With no lubrication, the rod bearings are going to be ruined. I'm sure other parts of the engine have suffered damage as well. If they used the product improperly, you'll have no problem winning a court case and getting them to pay for a new engine. Good luck!!

Re: 93 Cutlass Supreme Engine Questions/Big Problem caused by engine flush

All engine flushes i have used say to just pour it in.Don't drain any oil. The shop is liable for all damages they caused. A quick call to the B.A.R.(Bureau of Automative Repair) might help!!
