2002 buick century engine/ tranny in 96 cutlass supreme

can anyone tell me if I can put the 2002 buick engine in my 1996 cutlass supreme? they both have the 3.1L 60 degree v6. I have a slipping tranny and a blown head gasket in mine. pics would really provide me the proof I'm looking for. thanks

Check the vin number for engine. I put 98 malibu motor in my 95 cutlass. Had to use the old timing belt cover and all old pulleys since the serpentine set up on the 98 was completely different.

One of the characters in the vin is the engine type. If the 2002 and the 96 have the vin character, it should fit. You may have to use your original flywheel, not sure. Like I posted, the belt routing was different. But a 6 year spread between engines, may not work with the diagnosis changes, ie computer. Look here.
