don't mind the name, i haven't owned a civic for a number of years. i currently own a nissan 240sx and i love it but i'm not really up for spending the countless thousands on a jdm turbo motor for the car and the impossible maintainence on the unit. my main love for my 240 is it handling. if i sell my 240 and pick up say a 91 or so 5.0, what will the handling possibilities be. are there any autocrossers in here that can answer my question. the mustang has the power and safer potential i want, but how do i build the suspension. it can't be that bad if it kicked ass in trans am right? any answers would help, i'd like to do this in the next few months.
oh, what kind of factory suspension does the 5.0 use? its not fully independent, is it? |

Fullu independant, that is a funny one
![]() The factory handling sucks for the Fox, but there is a cure. Go to this site www.maximummotorsports.com I run their Pan Hard Bar, Torque Arms, Coil Overs, LCAs, and Konis. The car handles like its on a rail now. The Stang will hold its own against my GTRs. In the straights, the stang will over power.

Re: handling question
Right, the stock mustang suspension is not that great, but it can be made to out handle some of the other expensive autocross cars.
Check out this site. http://www.dariusrudis.com/ he is heavy into this type of racing, and has lots of pics and info on his Mustang.

MM is awesome also check out the crazy SOB's at Griggs Racing best money can buy. A Fox-stang can out handle a Ferrari with the right parts. Griggs GR40 package has pulled 1+ G in the skipad on a Fox and MM is right there too.

Yea I agree both are awesome. Griggs is a bit ahead in my opinion but only cause #1 They cost a lil more and #2 like you said there parts always tend to involve more modifications to install. Example: When you have tp start cuttin floorpans to put subframe connectors in it's a bitch but thier is reason behind the madness. I don't know how far this guy wants to take it so I gave him another option. I think for 98% of the Mustang driving world MM is a better choice.

you can make 'stangs handle as good as anything out there. thing is, it's a lot easier to find drag racing than it is to find roadcourse/autox. so why not set it up to launch straight? don't get me wrong, there's nothing i'd like more than to get the steeda 5-link package and make my notch pull 1+ g's, but it's just not practical. i'll set that bad boy up with my rebuilt SBF and make it kill ricers. probably, the next 'stang i get will have a rebuilt 5.0 HO in it, and be set up for autox. but for now, i'll just crack skulls in the detroit area with the best of them =)

Re: handling question
i autocross a 4 cylinder mustang and an old lotus europa. the mustang actually handles better. if you want to autocross a mustang you need to buy a book called Mustang Performance Handbook 2 by William R. Mathis. there are alot of mistakes you can make like buying progressive springs that you'll regret later. you also must stiffen up the suspension so that all the screwed up steering geometry doesn't come into affect. and when you realize the car pushes like a pig camber/caster plates make a nice upgrade. what racing organization will you be racing with?

no, i haven't been to an autox for almost over a year. my civic crapped out on me and i didn't want to fix it, so i sold it and bought the 240 for 1200. i pretty much had to put some of it back together so this season will be my first in a while and back in a rear wheel drive car. i used to use my 86 rx7 gxl back in high school.
