1997 Buik Park Ave ABS/Traction problem
For the last two years the ABS/Traction warning light would come on in wet snow or rain conditons. it also came on after running through a car wash. In dry conditions it worked perfectly.
In the last few months the warning lights come on when the car is first started from cold. if the car is stopped after about 30 min and restarted the lights do not come on and the ABS and Traction functions work correctly, the warning lights will remain off until the car hits a pot hole or bump in the road when they will come back on. The test readout indicates a problem with the left rear sensor. If it is the sensor why does it function correctly for hours untill the car hits a bump in the road. Could this be a wiring problem? Any help wold be appriciated. |

I dont know for sure what your problem is but it sounds like a bad connection because either water or a good jolt will make it come or go.
I have a problem with my traction control where the system is inoperative. The traction control light will come on after about 15 seconds of driving all the time except sometimes when it rains it might not come on. The abs works but the traction control wont fuction (ie i can still spin the tires) I was told it was a very expensive fix so I just ignore it. |

i've seen the same problem on a 93 grand prix, but the way i found it was that i needed a scanner with datastream for the abs then duplicate the problem ( washed the car). On this one it was the wiring for the sensor on the rf wheel connector. This customer was a regular so it was easy to follow up on.

Re: 1997 Buik Park Ave ABS/Traction problem
i've had the exact same problem with my warning lights. i had the problem diagnoses as my driver side rear speed sensor being bad. went ahead and had it replaced only to have the lights come back on again, especially during rain or wet conditions. i finally got under the car to check things out and found out for myself the real problem....an exposed wire on the wiring harness for the abs sensors and traction control had become exposed and corroded causing it to short out in foul weather. i spliced the wires and put some protection around it and have not had a problem since. for anyone with this type of problem, i would start with these wires underneath the car.
