1997 Park Ave 4T65E Trans Problem

Here is the problem - Bought car 3 months ago (97 Park Ave Base) from an elderly man. Car has 34k miles and is mint and was obviously well maintained. The trans occasionally (once every couple of weeks) shudders on hard acceleration from a stop and also shudders during 1st to 2nd shift at wide open throttle. Also, the trans seems to shift a little soft. My mom has a 97 Ultra and the trans shifts more firm than mine. The trans fluid looks great. Any comments? Thanks in advance for your help. Greg.

Re: 1997 Park Ave 4T65E Trans Problem

check the motor/transmission mounts. The front drivers side transmission mount on my 91 has been broken for a couple of years. Ive tried fixing it but it keeps breaking.

the shuddering could be caused by the engine moving too much during a hard acceleration. Ive trained myself to be very light on the gas to avoid any engine bumping.

to check it, put the car in drive, hold your left foot on the brake and pulse the gas pedal. have someone look at the engine (hold the brake hard so you dont run them over ) and have them see if it moves alot. mine moves about 3 inches or so which is terrible, it should only move less than an inch. im just too lazy to try fixing it again. im more concerned about fixing the suspension now.

1997 Pa..

My 1997 PA does the same thing. I have noticed that I can no longer turn on/off the traction control. I thought this might have something to do with it but, I wouldnt know the first place to look for work on that. If you find out anything...post back and I'll do the same.

Thanks for the info. COuld you tell me how difficult it is to remove the side cover on the trans to get access to the solenoid? Is there enough room to remove it without unbolting engine & trans mounts to gain access? Thanks - Greg
