CAI help

my injen cai just arrived and while i was reading the directions I notice it required me to cut a 3 inch ID hole of the resonator opening. anyone else have to do this?
and also does anyone else drive around w/ a cai in snow/rain conditions ignoring all the warnings of getting water in the engine? It would be a real pain to have to put the stock one back in everytime it was wet out.

Re: CAI help

You can just bend the hole with some pliars, no need to cut. As for the rain/snow thing...CAIs can get went all they want, the filters can get soaked, etc. Hell you might even get a drop or to all the way up to your intake manifold before it instantly vaporizes and doesn't do any damage. The problem comes when you drive through a deep enough puddle and the ENTIRE filter gets submerged. When this happens, a huge column of water goes up the pipe instead of air, it hits your engine, and you're screwed. If you're lucky you can take out the spark plugs and crank it for a while to spit out all the water, then it might start.

Basically, if it's raining or snowing you're fine, if it's a monsoon you better not go driving. If you're worried about it you can get a bypass valve (maybe, does injen make one?) and that will take care of any problems.

Re: CAI help

actually it also depends where you live at,because over here in houston tx it is always humid,so i bet you cannot tell much the diff between a wai and cai because the air is always hot!

Re: CAI help

I went with a wai because I was young and didn't know any better

I've thought about replacing it, but then I just drop the money into something else and forget about it
