Need Help with my Camaro

Hey Guys, I have an 82 Camaro Z28. I got it from a friend and its had engine work done to it, but neither of us know exactlly what was done its not the original engine that was in the car. It has a 350 in it with gear drive, an edlebrock 650 double pumper, hooker headers, I believe it was bored 30 over and sounds pretty mean "when" it runs. I drove it for the last 2 weeks (which was sweeeeeeet) and it was running fine but for some reason it died the other day and now it will only run for a couple of minutes and if I rev it up or try to put it in gear she back fires and dies, and when I turn the key off completely it get kinda like a cough back up through the carb. The sad part is this engine only has about 7000 miles on it since it was rebuilt and put in the car but the person he got it from has moved. The cap looks to be in good shape and even though its back firing it seems to be in time aswell. Is there any way to find out what the timing should be set at or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Ed

Ok maybe this will help I just went out started her up. I took the aircleaner off and drove her around the block a few times and she seemed to run fine, then she started like misfiring abit so I took her home popped the hood, reved her up and it was still ok sounding. I started to move a few groundwires and then it really started acting up and it died. then while the key was still in the on position I could hear a clicking like sound which seemed to be coming from the distributor (but that was only if I moved the wire around) and now she wont start again. Any ideas guys?

Re: Need Help with my Camaro

wire rub though. 90% sure. chase that ground wire you were shaking. its either rubbed through on something, or better yet, its loose where its supposed to contact the metal of the body. if its breaking contact, then you loose ground, and the circut for your ignition, stops flowing electricity. or at least, not enough to fire the chambers. i would bet thats your problem, when they put it together, they probly just forgot to tighten that bolt.
