Angry Heater core

yep just as the title says...i got a problem with the heater core...it leaks ...and im in need of replacement...bad ...i already know that by itself a new core shouldnt be too expensive...but the labor will kill me, which is why im gonna have to do it myself....

what i need is good advice...and i kno alot of u out there have it.

first off what size fitting do i need so that i can pull out the two hoses from the heater core and put them together...to avoid the engine overheating

and second....im sure its gonna be difficult to do...but anyone kno where the heater core is...behind the dash...and whats the easiest way to get to it and swap it

thanks!

Re: Heater core

1. disconnect neg battery cable
2. set temp lever to hot position
3. drain coolant
4. disconnect heater hoses from the heater unit.
5. remove console box and floor carpets
6. remove instrument panel lower covers from the drivers and passengers sides of the car. remove the lower cluster lids.
7. remove left hand side ventilator duct.
8. remove radio
9. remove the rear heater duct from the floor of the vehicle.
10. remove center ventilator duct.
11. remove left and right hand side air guides from lower heater outlets.
12. disconnect electrical harness
13. remove screws at the bottom sides of the heater unit and the screw at the top of the unit.
14. remove the unit, together with the heater control assembly.

i'm scanning a pic right now. it will be up in a couple minutes

ahhh, ok, thanks, now for a few questions,

i havent actually looked behind the dash yet, but do i truely need to remove the ducts...or am i just detaching them from the heater unit..

and how much easier will the job be if i take the front seats out...or will that just make it more difficult?

i knew somebody had an answer

You'll most likely need to remove the ducts. When you remove the center duct off the top of the heater core, then you will have nowhere to move it if the side ducts are still connected. It will need to be out of the way so you will have room to wiggle out the heater core. I'd take the front seats out. It's not hard and won't take long and it will give you way more working room.
