Heater Core Help

I am having a problem with my 97 saturn sl2. couple nights ago was driving home...started smelling antifreeze. car is not overheating. last night on the way home from work windshield completely fogged up...wouldn't go away regardless of what I did. Still smelling antifreeze very strong. Mechanic says probably the heater core. Can anyone tell me how to get to it.....maybe a you tube video or something?

thanks

Re: Heater Core Help

Heater core is under the passenger side dash. Inspect there for coolant drips. Its not an easy thing to replace, but it can be done. Unfortunately I do not have a video for this. I can see if I can find a How-to for it if needed.

Re: Heater Core Help

For what it's worth, I repaired a heater core by adding one of those radiator sealing compounds. It was still sealed when i sold the car years later. I might recommend flushing the cooling system first, as I've read of some systems gumming up with a sealant added.

Re: Heater Core Help

Cooling system stop leak won't plug anything up if used properly. Add to a COLD cooling system, top off the coolant then drive the car for a good 30-45 minutes to circulate the stuff.

A heater core is a difficult job requiring removing the dash. I also have resealed heater cores with stop leak. Doing a heater core is on the top of my list of things I hate doing on cars.
