Re: i want help

Where abouts are you? Which body shape is your car?

For starters, to lighten the car, start ripping out everything you don't need like back seats and the like. Substitute the regular front seats for Recaro or Sparco racing seats.

Re: Re: i want help

Are you talking about a *full* rally car? If you are, go ahead and trash your STi. A rally car starts with the frame, and the STi's frame isn't rally-worthy. Get ready to spend at least $100,000.

If you just want to be able to ride it offroad, then that's a different story.

Re: i want help

oook....A)this person is a troll and can afford a pretty expensive car to trash rallying, but can't seem to form a coherent sentence.

B)really has an sti and wants to rally but stilll can't really form proper sentences.

either way....If I may correct MB's statement that the STI's frame isn't rally worthy. what? this is the frame they have to base their rally car off of since all *real* rally cars (read WRC cars) must be based off of production models. The only thing that MAY be different frame wise would be that the WRC frame is seam welded with a VERY sturdy roll cage.

There's plenty you can do with a completely stock STI and still be very competitive. There's always Group N rally class for stock, or very mildly modified cars. Or you can start with rally cross, which is like an auto-x but on dirt, gravel, and/or mud. Rally-x is a great way to get a feel for what your capable of as a driver. Rather then going right into flinging you and your co-driver around rocks, trees, ditches and the such right off the bat, you can get an understanding of the logistics behind rallying.

Re: i want help

If you've ever seen a picture of the frame of one of these cars you'd know what I meant. Yes, it's based off of the frame to begin with, I sort of brushed that off. By the time the frame is ready to go, there's been 50,000 dollars worth of work done to it.

And, by the way, I'm going to have to call bullshit on this thread. mr x, 2 posts, can't form a sentence, has a brand new STi? Nope.

well if you want to make it lighter there are many things you can do. I know it may sound crazy but a friend of mine who is a mechanic that has built a low 12 second wrx actually went as far as to cut out the floor out of the boot and all other areas possible and replaced it with a thin sheet of light weight aluminium. I think he wasable to take off around 30pounds with this. Light weight racing rims obviously, take out all the interior and door trims and have a custom drivers seat made just out of light weight aluminium, chromoly (may be misspelt ;p) rollcage, racing light weight clutch and carbon driveshaft, basically strip anything and everything except the bare basics. As for performance bits to make it go faster, well theres just too many options out there to mention. All depends on your budget really and how serious you are about doing this.

Re: i want help

A 2003 STI? Where do you live? Here in the US, plenty of people rally their Subarus with just minor modifications (through SCCA).
