newbie wants help

hello. new to this. anyhow have 1997 tercel ce and engine light came on and it started to hick up when slowing down a bit but nothing to crazy. never stalled or anything. just little things. any ideas what this would be? i know not much bout cars but have ideas what it would be. everything that could be the problem would be perfect to know. thanks alot.

take it to your local auto parts store and see if they can run the codes, that most always locates the problem
