Clutch gone out???

When I went out to get in my Ranger to go to work, the clutch went out...Major bummer!!! At least I think my clutch went out. When I depress the clutch, the transmission does NOT disengage as it should. Also, I have to force the shifter into gear and the only gear that I can get is 2nd. Lost the hydraulic pressure as well...Sounds like the clutch to me.

Does this sound like the clutch to anyone else?

Thanks! April

Re: Clutch gone out???

OK. Yesterday afternoon, my boyfriend warmed the truck up for about 30 minutes and then tried to drive it. He told me that when he started driving it, the truck was shifting hard, but then it started shifting smoother...I drove it last night and to work this morning (properly warmed up) and it drove fine. ONE problem, the clutch pedal seems to have lost most of the hydraulic pressure...

Any ideas? Does this sound like the clutch is "trying" to go out? It seems weird that the clutch wouldn't work yesterday morning, but is working now with a loss of pressure in the clutch pedal....

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

April

Sounds like you might have a leak in your clutch lines. This is easy to check, first, make sure the fluid compartment is full (if it's not it's a pretty good sign that you have a leak). Then, if you want to find the leak (assuming you have one), have one person in the truck pressing and depressing the clutch while another person checks the lines for drips, or even moist spots. Replacing the line isn't easy if you don't know what your doing, and should be relativily inexpensive if you take it to a garage that doesn't rip you off.

Re: Clutch gone out???

I have a similar problem. I also thought it was the clutch. The truck would sometimes not come out or go in gear. And it would be in gear and I would have the pedal to the floor and it would be pulling forward.

Tore the truck down and the clutch and lines were fine. The problem was a $0.30 pilot bearing. It came out in dust.......

SO I have to drop the tranny for a $0.30 part.

Since I was in there, I changed the clutch.

Could be a bad slave cylinder in the clutch too. Just another possibility. Yeah pulling the tranny definately does suck big time. Not much clearance between the bellhousing and the body!!!

Sometimes it is easier to remove the cab then fight with everything.

Thanks for the replies! It was the slave cylinder.
