I have just acquired a 1990 5 speed Galant. The car runs fine when it is cold. After it heats up, it generates no power and dogs really bad when you attempt to accelerate or take off from a stop. If I turn the car off and back restart it, I can drive if for a short distance, and then have to repeat the procedure. Incidently, the car idles fine, the problem only occurs when you step on the accelerator. Any ideas?

No Power?
What type of ignition system does the car have? It sounds like a coil or ignition control module is getting hot and puttering out. Just a guess, could be many other things.

What is your engine code for your Galant? Is it the 4g63T Cyclone? Regards, HarrySolve |

After further trouble shooting, I found that it had nothing to do with temperature, just driving. Then, I noticed when the car was idling, but wouldn't move, that I could hear an oscilating hum coming from the rear. I thought, fuel pump! I found that I could reproduce the problem by shutting off the car, starting it, and then jumping up and down on the back end of the car. It would begin the oscilating hum in the back again. So now, I'm thinking I have crud in the fuel tank that is blocking the pick-up on the fuel pump, or the fuel pump is bad. I have just ripped the fuel tank off of my car and am getting ready to check it out. I'll let you know what I find. Let me know what you guys think in the mean time.
