I have a '91 5.7 liter, 350 4X4 1500. Whenever I put it into reverse and I start to back up it will die as soon as I let off the gas. I've gotten pretty good at gassing it while I switch it into drive, before it swithes gears. But it is driving me nuts. It just dies my lights will dim and flicker and then it will die. I've taken it to a couple mechanics, but they can't tell me what's wrong, so if anyone has any help/advice please let me know.

Re: '91 K1500 dies in reverse
Hey I had the same problem with my Silverado. Check the Vaccumn line to your EGR valve ( its on the passenger side of the eng located on top of the manifold ) . If the lines are fine then I would suggest replacing it, they are usually about $30 and easy to replace ( two bolts ). Mine was doing the same thing in reverse and once I replaced it, the problem stopped.
hope this helps |
