3000gt speed/hp question
ok hi - i'm looking to buy a 3000gt from this guy very soon - the offer is nice and I love the car - first thing that struck me as being wrong was the fact that he says the timing slipped by one tooth and bent 1-2 valves on the rear head - he says it will cost $300-500 for the repair if I get it taken to a shop - what do you guys think is that about right? Second thing is he said the car ran a 12.5 b4 easily with a bad driver, passenger, spare, jack, and street tires and @ low boost 14 @ max. I believe that but that was b4 most of his mods which are listed below - he says it can run mid 11s now easily on street tires. He says that the car has 550hp+ but never had it dynoed - he doesn't have any recent times either - and said that a 3000gt vr4 running mid 11 quarter miles will have @ least that much horsepower, so let me know if you guys think that's what it would run and approximately how much boost ?
Here is the list of mods : It has dr650 turbo's, 550cc injectors, HKS fuel pump, ARC 2, EVC4, new carbon clutch, NEW factory short block, NEW Kormex transmission BRAND NEW factory short block. (proven to handle over 700 HP on the stock bottom end) Brand NEW getrag transmissionw/25spline output shaft conversion with a warrenty Brand new driveshaft rebuilt ECU just rebuilt last week New Master & Slave Cylinders New Throttle Servo Kit New O2 Sensors New Fuel Filter new cv axels new rotors, new matrix metal brake pads, new brake lines. new AC compressor, and changed over to R132 HKS 550 fuel pump HKS evc4 EBC K&N 82mm Intake DR650 turbo's flow tested 550cc injectors carbon cLutch 3" down pipe no pre or main catalytic converters ARC II fuel controller w/ ARM I- (which eliminates the stock MAS, and lets you control the AF ratio, it's the best on the market. Better than the SAFC.) DN chrome y-pipe blue oversized wires, new plugs just put in a week ago Apexi twin chamber BOV, REALLY LOUD! Autometer A/F gauge Autometer boost gauge dual gauge pod ARM 1 AF gauge Window tint. It has 1 AF gauge for each O2 sensor so It can be properly tuned. I can easily show anyone how to tune this beast. It can easily hold 20+ psi 770 injectors would be included also Let me know how fast this car could run a quarter mile and how much hp it's got (to the wheels) thanks - I really appreciate it - and one last thing what do you think would be a good price for it let me know thanks

yeah i've got the apexi twinchamber bov also it is very loud, but yeah it sounds reasonable to run 11's, let yogs check out the mods he can tell you a thing or 2. but to me it sound like the beast he is teling you it is,
how much you buying it for?

Hey guys
First let me tell you my gut reaction. Something sounds fishy. Lets start with the claim of 12.4 on only 14 pounds of boost. Thats virtually impossible with a great driver and a perfect launch. I'd make some calls, 500 seems low for that repair job. Not only that, but the timing belt (and associated tensioner etc) will need to be done if not already and that runs several hundred already. Just the fact the timing got out of wack is a concern. Should not have happened, but if he drove it like that for any length of time, there is going to be more problems in the engine. 550hp should put the car in the 11s. I do believe that. That list of mods might be able to get the car enough boost and fuel to make it. Now on to the next baffling part. That list of mods says he has a "NEW Kormex transmission" and a "Brand NEW getrag transmissionw/25spline output shaft conversion with a warrenty" so which one is it? Can't have both unless he means he got the transmission from Kormax. I thought they only sold rebuilt engines so color me suspicious. I tell you, have this car looked over by a mechanic you trust. Things just don't sound on the up and up to me based on what I read here. As for a price. I don't know what year the car is. The fact it needs some work as well as all those mods, I wouldn't pay more then 3-6K for a first generation (and then up from there depending on the year). Remember, the cost of the mods do not increase the value of the car to most people. Anyone who claims they do is just trying to justify their price tag. As for the quarter. Its all in how well a car is tuned with those mods (and a working engine). I could see 500hp+ and high 11s.

kormex does rebuilt our transmisions, and puts in better syncros and a hardend output shaft.

yup, and the vr4 spyder at 10psi on TD05 14b's that ran mid 11's. I think he was the second fastest car at NG03.

10 psi on a spyder that ran mid 11s even with those trubos? You sure about that?
In any case, the original poster said he got the mid 12s before he had most of those mods. Sorry, but the 9bs with a bad launch along with a passenger is not going to be anywhere close to the 12s.

yes im sure about the 11 sec run, its the reason "TD05 is god" lol
I dont expect to many people to be seeing those times tho. And your very correct about the 9bs in mid 12's

man, VR4's are quick...i thought with 500+ hp the VR4 would hit high 10s?? with jus a couple mods, the VR4 can already go mid/high 12 and 13s...well...thats what i heard...
I want a VR4...

With 500+ wheel hp its posible to hit high 10's, but thats with a good driver. And with AWD it requires more HP to have that much WHP.
any my mistake, that spyder was on 11psi not 10psi when it made the 11.5ish run.

who said he was on the stockers, 13G's at 14psi should get you 12.5's pretty easy. and it is not like it is impossible to get those on the stockers anyway. there is a decent amount of people that get into the 12's bpu, just got to have the car in good tune, have a good driver, and be at or near sea level. as far as that spyder goes... damn! i think i heard about that but i did not know it was at 11 psi. man i want 16G's sooooo bad. as far as this car goes, yea, i would be cautious. but if all of those mods are in it, damn, i would still pay at least $8k for it. just buy some DR stage 3 heads and be on your way with a kick ass car
